Now accepting East Region Educational Session Proposals:
The City of Conroe is excited to be hosting the 2015 TRAPS East Region Workshop at the Lone Star Convention Center in Conroe, Texas on Thursday, February 5, 2015.
Parks and Recreation professionals and enthusiasts from throughout the area are invited to submit proposals to be considered for inclusion in the 2015 TRAPS East Region Workshop. The Workshop seeks a variety of presentation topics that will appeal to the Parks and Recreation profession.
Benefits for Presenters
In return for your time and expertise, presenters receive free admission to the event and lunch. In addition, a limited number of featured presenters are selected on the basis of their perceived ability to attract participants due to their reputation for superb instruction, nationally recognized publications, and/or fun presentations.
We encourage all presenters to provide electronic information for participants during their presentations. Any additional direct expenses and reimbursements (i.e. handouts, audiovisual aids, mileage, etc.) must be approved in advance.
Proposal Deadline and Submission Information
The deadline to submit proposals is Friday, November 14. Submit Online or Download TRAPS Education Proposal template.pdf
Detailed session information will be posted on the web on December 15, 2014. We try to include as much information about presenters and topics as possible in that posting. Therefore, we would appreciate your commitment to this event at your earliest convenience. Review of proposal submissions will begin Monday, November 17, 2014. Those submitting proposals will be notified by December 8, 2014 regarding the acceptance of their proposal.

East Region Meeting (10:30 a.m.)
Lunch & Learn- Enhancing your Cultural Awareness and Competence (11:30 a.m.)
Synopsis:We all know that issues of diversity are important – personally as well as professionally. We also know that our perceptions, thoughts, and biases are learned early in life. In fact, by the time we are 4 or 5 years old, we have internalized what society teaches about society. The good news is that we can learn, grow, and evolve our understandings in positive ways. To do that, we need to look inside and conduct a personal audit of our own biases and perceptions to see how they affect the way we interact with others. In this very SAFE environment, we will engage in several activities to explore the perceptions we’ve internalized and learn how to grow from there.
