Texas Recreation and Park Society1.0 (TRAPS) is a non-profit 501(c)3 professional and educational organization founded 70 years ago. TRAPS is committed to advancing the field of parks, recreation and leisure services in Texas, while advocating for enhanced recreation opportunities and the increase of public green space for Texans. TRAPS, serves as a clearinghouse of information on parks and recreation, fosters networking and promotes the sharing of information.

As an affiliate of NRPA, the Society provides continuing education credits toward obtaining or maintaining the national Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) credential and other certifications such as the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). TRAPS also offers the National Playground Safety Institute’s (NPSI) Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course, which provides the most comprehensive and recognized training available on playground hazard identification and risk management. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department administers several grants assistance programs to communities for a variety of recreation and park purposes, including the Texas Recreation and Parks Account, which receives a portion of the state sales tax on certain sporting goods. Texas Amateur Athletic Federation

taaf logo The TAAF is a non-profit organization established in 1925 to promote and organize amateur athletics in the State of Texas. The members of TAAF are comprised of Parks & Recreation Departments, individuals and organizations who contribute time, energy and effort in this endeavor. TAAF also holds the Games of Texas sports festival for Texas amateur athletes twice a year, Summer and Winter.
